Hooterville Hitchhiker

Paul and I jumped in the golf cart yesterday to take the trash to the dumpster, and as I was reaching for the key he yelled at me to "Get out!" I didn't question him, just jumped out and as I did I looked over at the open glove box area to see why.

Yikes!!!! A good thing Paul saw this hitchhiker! How long do you think it was? Did you kill it? What a scary feeling...but I bet you are used to seeing them out there in the desert. Glad neither of you were hurt.

No, it's a gopher snake. Completely harmless--but I jumped out immediately then looked at it from a safe distance before going in to get my camera.

So this morning I go out and before getting in the GC I check for s-s-s-snakes everywhere before driving down to feed the animals (Paul is in Tulsa for the week-end seeing his son) and I hear a snap just as I start out. Pulled up the seat and at first thought it was a snake--but it turns out there was a stick under there! The winds have knocked small branches loose and I must have run over one just right and it was stuck under the frame into the engine.

I have learned one lesson--don't just check the ground for snakes. They can be any place.
