It's Going To Be A Girl!

"Adeline's" Cake

We're expecting a new granddaughter in January! 42 days to be exact...but could be even sooner. Her name is Adeline and we can't wait to meet her! Her mommy is anxious too. So is her daddy and big brother, Lukas. Luke told me he wants to be called Lukas now. Might sound more 'big brother-ish' I guess.

When Adeline arrives, she will be our 2nd granddaughter. Two boys; two girls. How great is that? We couldn't feel more blessed.

Give Thanks!

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy

Happy Thanksgiving to all my family and friends and to our women and men in the Armed Forces who cannot be home with their families this Thanksgiving. Pray for peace.

Friday Cat Blogging

Sonny thinks he owns my desk. While I'm working, he's usually curled up on my printer watching for that sneaky paper to come out in the drawer below him. But there are other times when he thinks my desk is a race track and he knocks my files over, squeezes under the monitor shelf, taking my stapler and wireless mouse control unit with him and acts like he's on Humboldt-grade catnip!

Those time, like this morning, when I'm very busy, I have to put him in his carrier for a time out--otherwise I can't get any work done. It calms him down for awhile and allows me to get caught up and then I let him out after telling him he needs to be good! Happy Friday!

Brainless or Wireless? You Decide!

I took my new HP laptop to LA this weekend and couldn’t wait to try high-speed wireless at the hotel. Hooterville only has dial-up. No cable or DSL out here in the boonies and we’re lucky to have a dial-up at all. Anyhoo, that night I fired up the laptop and couldn’t get online! It said ‘no wireless networks available’. I called the front desk and the desk clerk checked her connection and said everything looked good.

I asked if perhaps our corner room might be the issue (ok—I know nothing about wireless) and she assured it me wouldn’t be the cause and asked me to bring the laptop to the lobby and we’d see what the problem was.

I got down there and it seemed the issue was the ‘wireless button’ was disabled. I clicked on help on the wireless assistant and it said to go to setup (F10 when you’re booting up) and change the LAN to enable. We followed the instructions and setup showed it was already enabled.

Next, it said to right click on the wireless assistant and turn the button on. Well, that didn’t work because there was no ‘on’ to select. The word disabled was shaded. Dead end! I gave up and went back upstairs to the room, disappointed. I called brother Chuck, the computer guru in the family, and explained what was going on. He had me go to various settings and still nothing. After trying everything we could, we gave up too.

I was so disappointed and determined to find the problem that I finally went to my HP help (I had looked there before—searching wireless connections, etc—and it kept going in the same circle); but this time I went to the owner’s manual on the computer.

I opened up the part about wireless settings and VOILA!! There was an actual picture of the wireless button! No, not the wireless button in the wireless assistant window in the software…a real, live button to push. On the laptop. Right near the on button. Under. My. Nose. Two hours to find one stinking button. I pushed it and I was surfin’ the net at lightning speed.

Now I’m back home to dial-up. I have already called a satellite high-speed internet installer and I’ll keep my dial-up as back up. But I have a need for speed!
