Just Droppin' By

Now this visitor was quite a surprise! Believe it or not, I didn't see him for quite awhile because I wasn't looking for such a large bird! Honest!

See why I try and keep my digital camera ready? You never know who might just drop by for a visit. Of course, my pond fish were not pleased! Don't worry, after having a few sushi eaters fly over and stop by for a meal, I have plenty of places for my fish to hide.

FYI-I measured his size after he left, using my torch height, and he was about 4 feet tall.

Joseph Edward Duncan III

Is it possible that JED3 killed Anthony Michael Martinez? Here's the information from the FBI's website:

An unknown male suspect (sketch on left) is being sought for the kidnapping and murder of ten-year-old Anthony Michael Martinez in Beaumont, California. On April 4, 1997, the child was taken at knife point from the backyard of his home, where he was playing with his two younger brothers and two friends. The suspect allegedly put Martinez in a vehicle and then drove away. His body was found a few weeks later in a remote location approximately 20 miles east of Palm Springs, California.

He stayed quite awhile, drinking out of the pond, perching on my little bridge railing (below).

Then he graced me with a close-up by perching on my deck railing right outside my window! He is either the biggest red tail hawk I've seen around here, or he's an immature golden eagle. If anyone knows, please post a comment.

The Misfits

Did I mention I'm a true crime buff? My kids think I'm crazy, but truth is stranger than fiction IMO, and when I first got online I followed the JonBenet Ramsey case.

When Laci Peterson went missing, I was introduced to Loretta Dillon's blog: Observations of a Misfit, by an online friend. I am hooked. Loretta has just published her book Stone Cold Guilty: The People v. Scott Lee Peterson. It's available on Amazon, Barnes & Nobel and Lulu.com.

Hooterville Holler??

Well, I really don't live in Hooterville. It's more of a state of mind. I moved to a tiny desert town in '93 from the San Fernando Valley, where I had running water, flush toilets and convenient shopping. Of course, I also had traffic gridlock, car alarms, and corporate BS.

Now I live off of several miles of dirt roads on 30+ acres with my husband, horses, pot belly pigs, dogs and cats. Quite a culture shock!

I'm not sure where I'll be heading with my blog. Time will tell.
