Judge Robert Lemkau needs to go!

In early January, Heather went to night court for a traffic violation. Her court date was earlier, but she was in Cedars-Sinai and couldn't attend. After calling the court clerk's office to see if Dave could attend in her place, she was told to bring her hospital records and ask the judge to reopen the case. They do it all the time.

Long story short, she went to court and not only did the judge not allow her to have her case re-opened, (she was there for hours and not allowed to use the restroom or put her legs up as her doctor ordered) and when she tried to explain her side of things, the judge had her bodily thrown out of court. She was 30 weeks pregnant.

So, who was this judge? Robert Lemkau. The same judge that called Katie Tagle a liar and allowed Stephen Garcia to take their 9 month old baby, Wyatt on visitation. Stephen Garcia shot and killed Wyatt and himself 10 days later as he had threatened. The judge did not believe Katie.

“My supposition, ma’am, is that you’re lying.” Those were Judge Robert Lemkau’s words to Katie Tagle of Yucca Valley as she appeared in his Victorville courtroom Jan. 21, seeking a restraining order that would prevent her ex-boyfriend, Stephen Garcia, from having unsupervised, Thursday-to-Sunday visits with their son, 9-month-old Wyatt Garcia. The judge turned down Tagle’s petition for an ex parte restraining order — a kind of emergency order made without a full hearing.

Ten days later, in the early-morning hours of Jan. 31, Stephen Garcia allegedly shot his son before turning his pistol on himself on a road in the snowy mountains of Twin Peaks.

Transcripts are here. Please read them, then support James Hosking and remove Judge Lemkau from the bench!

Drive for Change Nevada October 17-19 2008

I was among hundreds of Californians who showed up this weekend for the Obama/Biden campaign's Drive for Change in Las Vegas.

Here I am before I left with my team member to canvass and let everyone know about Nevada's early voting that started Saturday.

McCain suspends campaign; wants to delay debate

In the second week of a disasterous economic crisis, John McCain just announced he will suspend campaigning and wants to postpone the first presidential debate that is scheduled for 48 hours from now, to come to Washington and work on the bailout.

Last week, McCain said the fundamentals of the economy are strong.

Later, he explained that he was talking about the American workforce. He was all over the map last week, seemingly flailing and lashing out at SEC chairman Chris Cox and wanting to fire the head of the "FEC". (Oops)

What he didn't do was rush to Washington and suspend his campaign. Last night's ABC/WP poll showing he was diving among likely voters may be a factor in his sudden decision today.

If he wants to be POTUS, how does this reflect on McCain's handling the serious issues of the office?

Will the world only hand him one crisis at a time?

Countdown

I've been registering voters in California the past two weekends. Sarah Palin's GOP convention speech didn't just "energize their base", it energized me.

California's deadline to register for the November 4th election: October 20th. If you haven't registered or have moved or changed your name since you registered, you need to register now.

Countdown to the first presidential debate: 11 days
Countdown to the vice presidential debate: 19 days
Countdown to the second presidential debate 22 days
Countdown to the third presidential debate: 30 days
Countdown to Election Day 2008: 50 days
Countdown to Inauguration Day 2009: 127 days

The Sully Awakening

I’ve read Andrew Sullivan off and on since 2004 and watched his appearances on Bill Maher’s HBO show (BTW, he’s on again Friday, September 19th).

Since he’s taken on the blatent dishonesty of the McCain/Palin ticket, his blog has been de-linked by most of the right-wing blogosphere.

If you haven’t read his blog, The Daily Dish, please check it out and tune into HBO Friday night to see him on Bill Maher. You be the judge.

A Blast From The Past

Were you only in this for me?

Last night, Hillary Clinton asked her supporters a pointed question. It cut straight to the chase and left no doubt who she was addressing.

"Were you in this campaign just for me? Or were you in it for that young Marine and others like him? Were you in it for that mom struggling with cancer while raising her kids? Were you in it for that boy and his mom surviving on the minimum wage? Were you in it for all the people in this country who feel invisible?"

Thanks Hillary

You had a chance to end your campaign with dignity and class last night as the first woman candidate for president, but you chose to act like a spoiled child that refuses to go to bed when it's bedtime.

Now you are holding your delegates and supporters hostage to bargain for what? You want to be VP? Heh. As one of the pundits said this morning, if Barack falls for that, he'd better hire a food taster.

You took this momentous opportunity and made it all about you.

Ageism & Sexism

Well, there it is. Front page of (who else?) Drudge. Hillary showing (gasp!) wrinkles! Linked below is Limbaugh asking if America wants to stare at an aging woman and a story asking "Are we ready to see Hillary age?"

Of course, aging, balding men are ok.

We all know that's what is important in being chosen as president.

Not that I'm voting for Hillary. I haven't decided yet--but my decision won't be based on counting wrinkles or a good head of hair.

Shallow, anyone?

Sanctity of Marriage ... For Who?

I just don't get why the sanctity of marriage isn't extended to everyone.

Why should gays be exempt from having the same rights to make a legal commitment to someone they love?

How does that threaten heterosexual marriage?

Please!

Will our lawmakers outlaw the quickie Vegas marriage because it somehow doesn't fit their idea of the sanctity of marriage?

What happened to less government interference in our private lives?

Government needs to get back to doing what it was intended to do: provide for the basic safety (IE, fix those damn bridges and levees -- consider making health care available for a reasonable cost -- fix our dilapidated school buildings) and stop telling people who they can love!
